Soil erosion has been observed to be a serious environmental problem in Kashere area, that has led to the destruction of roads, houses, businesses among others. Therefore, this study estimates the amount of soil loss resulted from soil erosion in Kashere Catchment area. In this study, Remote Gensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques were used to analyze soil erosion in the catchment area of Kashere, Akko LGA, Gombe State Nigeria. Soil loss estimation was performed using the Revised Universal Soil Loss equation (RUSLE) model. It was computed by multiplying the corresponding values of each factor inherent in the equation (rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, slope steepness, slope length, cover management, and conservation practices) using RS and GIS techniques. A Digital Elevation Model (30 m by 30 m spatial resolution), rainfall data over 20 years, soil data, and land cover/land use extracted were used as input to calculate soil loss in ArcGIS 10.8 software. The results indicated a total amount of soil loss was computed to range from 0 ton/ha/yr to 610.212 ton/ha/yr with a soil vulnerability level of low, medium, and high covering areas of 9.670357km2 (95%), 0.454242km2 (4%), and 0.08001km2 (1%), respectively. This study revealed that high rainfall erosivity, slope length, slope steepness, and low vegetation cover were the main factors promoting soil loss in the area. This is an important finding as it can guide sustainability practices to control soil erosion and the loss of valuable lands in the region, especially with regards to the impact of climate change on the environment. It is therefore, recommended that deforestation should be minimized to limit exposure of the soil surface to direct raindrop impact that could accelerate soil erosion initiation and significant amount of soil loss in the area. Also, practices such as contour ploughing, terracing, and planting of cover crops to reduce the impact of factors such as slope steepness and high intensity of rainfall on soil loss in the area.
